VIBE FOR PHILO XXIII - DANCING IN THE MOONLIGHT
The 23rd Vibe for Philo - takes place at the Button Factory, Temple Bar throughout the 3-4th January 2009. Tickets are currently on sale through Ticketmaster.ie and outlets nationwide. Limited edition picture tickets from Freebird Records, Sound Cellar & Mojo's.
It's that time of year -so here we go again! After much deliberation, the organisers of this critically acclaimed event have finally decided that this year’s theme will be Dancing in the Moonlight. Virtually every major venue in Dublin has hosted the Vibe as it crosses the river Liffey from North to South and now The '09 Vibe returns to the Button Factory from the 3rd to the 4th of January, with the Pre-Vibe, Main Event, and a repeat of the successful Matinee on the Sunday afternoon. Being a weekend there will also be numerous side events, organized and impromptu, but more of that later.

We realize how little precious time there is left, and with Crimbo and the New Year Celebrations inbetween, January will be here before you can say Jack Frost ... Established acts such as Elvis Costello, Sinead O’Connor, and Adam Clayton were previous special guests and created enough optimism to convince everyone that this event is one that warrants much public appeal and signifies a most entertaining event for Lizzy fans old and new. So far we know that the Lizzy Boys (Japan) are Ready to Rock on all three shows with a different set on each occasion, Hoodoo Rhythm Devils, MD Brian Grace and numerous guests including Matt & Phil (Tizz Lizzy), John Conlon (Thin az Lizzy), Derek Herbert (Les enFants), Dave Mc Guinness (Lir), Colm Quirney (Q), Mark Adams, Paul Toal, Jimmy Coup, Ditch Cassidy, Robbie Bray, Ritchie Buckley and anybody else of interest with a good idea that props up between now and the event!
New Lady on the block - from New York City - with a brilliant Debut Album and a Top 40 single under her belt and flavour of the month with Ian Dempsey's Breakfast audience on Today FM - the charming Nell Bryden is also a huge Philo fan - having been fascinated and inspired by his writing technique. No stranger to Ireland she has preformed to sold out shows nationwide. Welcome on board Nell, who will render an acoustic set and join the House Band for a ditty or two. Other Acts on the Show include Emerald, who did an acoustic set some years ago but will go full-on electric on this occasion with some interesting versions of lesser performed songs. Renegade will drop in and out over the "Happening Weekender" ... with a few other bands in mind for alternative slots for each event to spice things up and keep it interesting over the three shows would be the plan ...
"Audio Visuals will be present throughout, even though it’s hard to know what to feature at this stage as most people have built up extensive libraries over the years ... A few rarities and a few classics I'm sure will do the trick, as it will after all be the Gospel according to the Main Man that was Philip P Lynott ... The Boss of Irish Rock ... On a related subject - Chatting Today with original Thin Lizzy Manager - Terry O Neill he brought it to my attention that in 2011 when we are staging the climaxing 25th Vibe for Philo it will be exactly 40 years since they debuted supporting Skid Row at The Countdown Club ... I was present on that occasion. We might try and combine our efforts to stage something spectacular, but that's a thought for another day ... Let’s get this one done and dusted first and foremost..." Excerpt from $miley’s blog @ www.vibeforphilo.com
Finally with the present depressing global financial situation kicking in, it's sure going to be rough times ahead in the coming year. All the more reason why we should all let our hair down, turn on, turnout and turn up for the Happening Weekender that is Dancing In the Moonlight - Vibe 2009

Hello dear friends and music lovers! When Phil Lynott wrote the song King's Call, as a tribute to Elvis, he also wrote the manual for how mourn to a fallen rock hero. On January 4th every year since 1986, when Lynott so sadly passed away, that manual has been used by his fans all over the world.
This tribute to the greatest rock poet of all times will this year take place at KGB Bar & Restaurant, Malmskillnadsgatan 45 in the center of Stockholm. Brian Robertson - Studio Report
| 04 November | |
|
Huge thanks to Sören Lindberg for keeping us up to date with Robbo's latest recording activities:
Tuesday 28th October ... Day 1: "Hi,
the first day in the studio turned out great! Three backing tracks laid
down,
drums and bass on It's Only Money, Mail Box and That's All, and we're doing guitars today as well.
Also a photo-shoot for
Sweden Rock Magazine". "All
Les Paul's recorded today and it sounds great! We're so happy with the
outcome of the session so far and we might even get the chance to get
another song down as well ... acoustics and lead vocals tomorrow. Probably
some really cool overdubs next week and possibly a guest appearance from
guitar wizard John Norum ... we can't wait to carry on with these recordings as
they seem to grow stronger day by day". "Some small problems, but all in all a good day! Singer Leif Sundin lost his mobile phone and we couldn't get him in to do the lead vocals, but we did acoustic and bottle-neck guitar, keyboards, some sound effects and a little bit of sampling. We'll
get to the vocals on Monday as well as lead guitars and some percussion.
Tuesday will see us through the technical stuff and we should be able to do
a couple of rough mixes of the 6 tracks recorded at Polar this year". "Robbo still uses his Old Bitch Gibson Les Paul, Marshall amps and cabinets, Vox Wah-Wah, Elixir strings and Dunlop picks and we're using Takamine, Martin and Larrivee acoustic guitars. We might also use some Dobros and Mandolins of various brands at some point during these sessions".

Monday
3rd November It looks like session three for this album will take place at the beginning of December ... we can't wait!"
Day 5: "Done and dusted ... great guitar solo's from the Wee Man and some really cool mixes by Chris Laney followed by some quick mastering from Lennart Östlund. We'll
showcase a few snippets at 106.7 Rockklassiker on Friday morning
between 06:00-09:00, so if you live in the Stockholm area, please don't hesitate
to listen in to Morgonrock.
Once again, thank you Sören and Robbo, all the best from all at Rock Legend

Tube Interview Online |
| 23 October | |
|
News from Muzu TV: "Thin Lizzy are widely renowned for being a band that achieved commercial success without having to compromise to their hard rock sensibilities. The group had a genuine talent and rock star in vocalist/bassist Phil Lynott and by combining his star quality with superb songwriting and a twin lead harmony guitar sound, they succeeded in carving a style and sound that was unique to Thin Lizzy. After a few early records that hinted at the band's potential, Thin Lizzy's big break came with the album, Jailbreak, and the record's first single, The Boys Are Back in Town. The records came fast and furious after this, but the band were never able to repeat the formula that worked so well with Boys... and soon found themselves being categorised as tired old rock stars in the face of the rise of punk rock’s youthful anarchy. By the mid 80s, the band had called it quits, ending things on a high note with the Thunder And Lightning Tour which sold out within days when it was revealed as the band's Farewell Tour.
Muzu TV have some great vintage footage of Thin Lizzy from one of their last appearances, on The Tube in 1983. The band address the recent news of their spilt, reveal their plans for the future and discuss the inspiration behind their album, Thunder and Lightning".

Robbo Recording! | |
| 23 September 2008 | |
|
Brian Robertson's best friend and Manager, Sören Lindberg has been in touch with some great news:
"I've just booked five recording days at Polar Studios in Stockholm towards the end of October, again with Ulf Larsson behind the mixing desk. The line-up includes the usual suspects - aka - Brian Robertson, Ian Haugland and Nalle Pahlsson and singer Leif Sundin (ex-Michael Schenker Group). We're currently looking at tracks, but there's likely to be a few covers and songs from Robbo's past as well as newly written songs.
|
|
|
|
|
|
This
session will take up what we started back in January, but due to other
commitments has been shelved until now. We're really looking forward to
get back to work again and to listen back to what we did earlier with
fresh ears. There's a few interesting ideas floating about as well as some
really cool people that want to be involved with the recording session.
Expect a few well known faces to be guesting on this album when it is
released."

Thin Lizzy UK Tour '75 CD released
| 8 September 2008 | ||
|
Thin Lizzy UK Tour '75 is released today. Rock Legend has a review copy and all are agreed that it sounds superb. The packaging is also excellent, featuring great contemporary photo's, some previously unseen. Brian Downey's sleeve-notes are concise but very interesting.
A very worthwhile release, proving once again that the band could cut it live and hopefully silencing some of the inane and incessant chatter about how live 'Live And Dangerous' was or was not.
UK Tour ’75 was recorded at Derby College of Art and Technology on the 21st of November 1975 and was the culmination of a three month tour in support of the outstanding Fighting album. According to the press release, the show, which was mixed live on the night, gives the set that raw and electric feel. The original recording from the 1/4" stereo master tape has been kept in amazing condition, transferred to CD, and now all fifteen tracks have been completely re-mastered - apparently under the band’s supervision. The album will be released as a deluxe CD, containing a 20-page booklet of previously unseen live photos and exclusive liner notes written by Brian Downey. The album features an early outing for Cowboy Song that went onto appear on the Jailbreak album a few months later.

Thin Lizzy UK Tour '75 CD finally to be released
| 11 July 2008 | ||
|
The Thin Lizzy UK Tour '75 CD is finally listed for release on 8th September (this year).
UK Tour ’75 was originally recorded for Radio Trent at Derby College Of Art And Technology on 21st November 1975 during the Fighting Tour.
Apparently
the original recording from the 1/4" stereo master tape has been
transferred to CD, and completely re-mastered.
The album will be released as a deluxe CD, including a soundcheck recording, a 20-page booklet of previously unseen live photos and exclusive liner notes written by Brian Downey.
The album features an early outing for Cowboy Song in embryonic form which went onto appear on the Jailbreak album in 1976.
The eagle-eyed among you will recognise that this is the complete version of the show included in the recent Live And Dangerous DVD Box Set as a bonus CD, in cut-down form and minus Derby Blues (Cowboy Song) as listed in the advance publicity and on retailers websites.

Thin Lizzy A Celebration - The Music Of Phil Lynott - 2008
| 30 June 2008 | |
|
|
|
|
Jeff Healey’s Roadhouse in association with Monster Records and Classic Rock Q107 are proud to present Toronto’s SEVENTH ANNUAL
Thin Lizzy - A Celebration: The Music Of Phil Lynott Friday July 25th at SOUND ACADEMY II (11 Polson St.)
Over the years, Lynott’s songs have been covered by an array of such diverse performers as Henry Rollins, The Corrs, Smashing Pumpkins, Randy Bachman, Huey Lewis, Metallica, The Cure and Canada’s own Emm Gryner.
One of the goals of the Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration is to help highlight the amazing diversity in Lynott's music and in the vast array of artists his music has inspired.
For the first four years, the proceeds from the event went to the Roisin Dubh Trust to help defray the enormous cost of erecting a statue of Phil Lynott in the heart of Dublin. 19 years after his untimely passing, this memorial in bronze was finally unveiled to a crowd of 6000 fans, on August 19th, 2005.
With the statue in place, subsequent show's proceeds have gone to such worthy causes as the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF) and the TOMA Foundation for Burned Children.
The proceeds of this year’s Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration will be donated to Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund in memory of our dear friend Jeff Healey.
Once again, Phil Lynott’s mother, Philomena, has graciously offered to take time out of her busy schedule to pre-record an introduction for the event.
Any questions, please contact Roger Costa (416) 975-1829 or email to [email protected]

Painting Of Philip By Mark Baker
| 14 June 2008 | |
|
Mark Baker has done a new painting of Philip. Here is his story ...
"Last weekend I was invited over to the lovely Philomena Lynott's house where I donated some prints of my latest painting of Phil Lynott to the Roisin Dubh Trust. Both myself and Philomena signed the prints which will be auctioned and raffled off at various future fund raising events. As a big Thin Lizzy fan it was great to meet Philomena and see all the memorabilia. I'd like to thank Philomena and her nephew Graham for their kind hospitality"

It was with great sadness we learned of John Earle's passing yesterday. While a member of Graham Parker And The Rumour, John regularly joined Lizzy onstage during the Bad Reputation Tour in 1977 to accompany them on Dancing In The Moonlight. His performances are featured on Lizzy's legendary Live And Dangerous album and video/dvd. John was a total gentleman and was highly regarded by those who had the pleasure of meeting him.
|
|
|
Rest In Peace John. Thanks for everything, the tours and gigs we did together and all the great moments backstage and at the hotels over the years. It was a privilege to have had the fortune to meet you and play with you with Thin Lizzy, Graham Parker & The Rumour and finally at The Vibe in Dublin - Brian Robertson
PS: I'll never forget when you asked me in Wolverhampton if they had any rock stars in Finland ... you said that it would be great to move over there and drive a snow scooter over the tundra to get to the gigs - Sören Lindberg |

"We are very, very sorry about this and its just bad luck that this coincides with DDIII, Sweden Rock is probably going to be the biggest event in our career to date and we simply cannot afford not to take up this promotional tour. We have thought hard about it and I think Phil has a few cards up his sleeve, it will be a great night and Tizz Lizzy, the Heroes of this year's Vibe are the closest thing to the real thing that I've ever experienced so it will be an amazing night". - Bat (Glyder)

We received some great news from Sören Lindberg earlier this month – Robbo is back in the recording studio!
With Ulf Larsson behind the desk initially, at Polar Studios Brian Robertson was recording with Ian Haugland and Nalle Pahlsson on drums and bass respectively. The recordings took place during a short break from gigging, Ian Haugland with Europe and Nalle Pahlsson with Tomas Ledin.

Sören told us: "The
first session is now complete and we've got three tracks recorded. The
next session is not yet scheduled, but it should take place during this
Winter or early Spring. The songs recorded so far are Do It Till We
Drop (Miller/Robertson), Blues Boy (Lynott/Robertson) and Linger
My Love (Karlsson/Robertson) with a line-up consisting of Robbo on
guitars and vocals, Sulo - lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Ian Haugland -
drums and percussion, Nalle Pahlsson - bass and Linéa Helgé on backing
vocals. Recording took place at Polar Studios in Stockholm by Chris Laney
and Lennart Östlund on January 10-12th and Marshall Amps were supplied by
DM Audio. A special thanks to everyone involved and to Pär Olsson at
