Rather than release Deluxe Editions, remastered and expanded as has been done for many of the artists on Universal, the company appears to have gone for the cheap and not so cheerful option when dealing with Philip Lynott's solo albums.
Yellow Pearl is 'A Collection' - a budget priced compilation culled from Solo In Soho, The Philip Lynott Album and Philip's last single Nineteen. While the inclusion of non-album B-sides Somebody Else's Dream and Beat Of The Dream is welcome, the tracks have previously been available on CD on the Swedish compilation album of 2000 - The Boys Are Back In Town, compiled by Lizzy guru Jörgen Holmstedt.
The opportunity to produce a definitive, comprehensive collection of Philip's solo work, perhaps including some of the material he was working on right up until his untimely death, has once again been sadly missed.

News from Dawn of the Roisín Dubh Trust ... Dennis Keeley Memorial Gig – Saturday 15th May Lizzy supporter Pete Schofield has reformed his band, Ain't Lizzy, to play a memorial gig for Philomena's partner, Dennis Keeley, in Derby on Saturday 15th May. The show is a performance to celebrate the life of Dennis Keeley - a fans' "thank you", held in a small, intimate venue to reflect the way he seemed to live his life; low-key, no big fuss, yet belying a passionate devotion to Philomena and all things Lizzy. A message from Phyllis will be read out before the show, which will be dedicated to Dennis with a minute's applause, before the performance starts. The venue is small and intimate and has now sold out.

Meantime our friends Glyder have their new album ready for release - Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow - Rock Legend is sometimes criticised for being a sub-branch of the Glyder Fan Club - we make no apologies for supporting a young band, steeped in the history and inspired by Philip Lynott and his band Thin Lizzy.

Day 5!
We
spent day 5 doing rough mixes of 12 tracks and it was a long day going
through lots of different takes of basically everything ... when you're
working with someone like Robbo, you'll have at least five different
guitar solos on every song and they're all great! A pleasant problem
though ... "I wonder if you could share with us what has been the most challenging part of the process so far, and equally what has been the most rewarding part"?
I suppose the answer would be Robbo and Robbo! Just to hear him rip into one great guitar solo after another is a dream come true for any Robbo, Thin Lizzy or guitar player fan, but he can also be his own worst enemy when it comes to a lot of other things that's being recorded ... there's a reason why he hasn't had any success on his own over the years and that's his lack of commercial thinking and a certain need to complicate things and basically over doing most things. He's
brilliant when he just let's things happen, but he needs somebody to nudge
him in the right direction ... hopefully my input could be of some use,
but that's something that we won't know until the album's released and we
have your judgement on the matter.

We've put the backing tracks down for three new songs, "Devil In Her Soul", "Passion" and "Texas Wind". Three
groovy, riffy rockers that we all enjoyed immensely recording. Drums,
bass, some rhythm guitars, keyboards and grand piano were laid down during
the first two days and today is a big day for Robbo with rhythm guitar,
acoustic guitar and some fills and lead work.

The third session is now complete and it is just sounding better and better. We
started in January and recorded "Do It Till We Drop",
"Blues Boy" and "Linger My Love" which were great, but
it felt like it was very much on a standard level for Robbo.
2008 has been a great year for me working with Robbo and I just want to say "Thank You!" to all the people involved. From the musicians and technicians involved in the studio to all you guys at the Rock Legend Forum and journalists like Dave Ling and Jorgen Hölmstedt who have been very supportive all the way through. And to Michael Johansson who has been documenting progress for a long time. Not
to forget all the wonderful people at Luthmans, Ingolf and all the crew at
Sweden Rock Festival and Annie our massage specialist. We will also be having some serious talks with Martin Lundström about the cover work of the album. The
current working title of the album is "100mph With The Brakes
On".

Five
backing tracks recorded today ... Robbo, Ian and Nalle, with Chris Laney
behind the desk as usual. Started with a weird song, "10 miles to go
on a 9 mile road" by Jim White then into an as yet untitled Robbo
original with the working title "Bonanza" ... very melodic and
rocking. Into another Robbo original "Diamonds And Dust" which
is single material in my opinion. Last, but not least, two versions of
Philip Lynott's "Running Back" ... one slow bluesy, swampy,
slide guitar driven version an the other a rock 'n' roll number in the
vein of Rod Stewart & The Faces or The Rolling Stones.

Rhythm guitars and bottleneck recorded
on 4 of the tracks today ... great work by Robbo, but he's knackered after
all that hard work and deserves a good night's sleep ... we'll continue
tomorrow with the final rhythm guitars and lead vocals by Leif Sundin. Thursday will be the most fun ... lead guitars by the Wee Man ... I'm really looking forward to that!

We've got some really cool lead vocals done today and some bottleneck guitars as well ... tomorrow it's acoustic guitars and lead guitar then backup the system and do a quick couple of rough mixes of the five tracks recorded this stint We now have 14 tracks recorded and it's time to start looking at the final overdubs and start mixing this project that we started in January last year.

Our friends Glyder go into the studio on Monday for two weeks to record their third album, the follow up to the superb Playground For Life from last year.
Rock Legend caught up with main man Bat earlier this week and he is sounding very, very positive about the new album. Confidence is high and the creative juices have been flowing since Glyder played Sweden Rock Festival and The Kanpur Festival in India for the students of IIT. Glyder have taken their time to prepare for the new album and have almost written enough material for two albums!
The new album is tentatively titled Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow though Elverstown is also a contender - it is the name of the area where their studio is located - Bat thinks it sums up who they are, their influences and everything they have soaked up in the last 5 years.
That Line - modern rock meets retro rock
- most modern sounding Glyder track to date
Always The Loser - a swinging shuffle, a little like Bad Company meets Lizzy
- epic, classic rock, hopefully sublime
- in your face classic rock, Lizzy meets AC/DC, the sound of the debut album
- punchy modern rock with retro riffs
- laid back American feel, probably acoustic if it makes the album
- catchy modern rock, still a work in progress. Drummer Davy Ryan’s writing debut
They Call Me Strong - swaggering retro rock, a little Stones and a little Eagles meets Motorhead with a Bo Diddley style groove!

- Led Zep style rocker with some great riffs, still a work in progress

probably record thirteen songs in the studio and choose the ten that best
fit the album. The
album will be self-produced after the
great response to the Weather The Storm EP ... we have great
belief in the material. We are a band
that are very much in touch with the world around us. We are very
conscious to never get sucked into the rock and roll lifestyle, we remain
very grounded. In our songs we
deal with the experiences in our everyday lives in Ireland and also
capture the vibe of some of the great places and peoples' lives we've
encountered when we have been on tour. We had a very busy touring schedule last year so we decided to take a break and take our time to try and make this a great album which will hopefully show that we are up there as songwriters. I'm very
confident that the songwriting is our best to date. It’s an upbeat album
with the same positive energy as our debut.

The main band will be Robbo, Ian from Europe (one of the best drummers in the world!) and the ever elusive bass player, Nalle who's played with everyone who's worth mentioning and Leif who's sadly underrated even though he's been with the Michael Schenker Group. There's several guest appearances scheduled and some
already recorded with some really cool, famous musicians including a
couple of former Thin Lizzy members. Only this morning I got an e-mail from Jeannie (can I tell you) who was the main inspiration for Borderline ... and I can tell you that she's still a very pretty lady and that's she's doing really well. I do keep in
touch with "The Kid" aka Ray McVeigh, Brian Downey, Smiley
Bolger, Eric Bell, Darren Wharton and lots of other musicians that Robbo's
played with over the years and there's lots of open doors still around for
The Wee Man.

The following news/press release was sent out by the Thin Lizzy - A Rock Legend website to various rock websites and radio stations:
Thin Lizzy – Still Dangerous The independent website Thin Lizzy - A Rock Legend recently saw a huge increase in traffic anticipating the forthcoming release of 'Still Dangerous'. The official press releases made this the most anticipated album in many years for the bands supporters, with promises of an album featuring the "raw, unadulterated, untouched sound of Thin Lizzy".
This read like a dream to Lizzy supporters especially given that the show intended for release was one of the legendary gigs from the Tower Theatre, Philadelphia in 1977. Many fans will know that those gigs were used as the backbone for Lizzy's classic album 'Live and Dangerous'. Finally this was the chance to quash all the tales of excessive overdubbing and re-recording.
However on first listening to 'Still Dangerous' fans were immediately struck by the lack of material, several expected tracks were missing and songs were clearly out of sequence. Whilst not seeking to discourage people from buying what has to be an essential Lizzy album the members of Rock Legend voted overwhelmingly via a poll to express their desire to put the record straight regarding 'Still Dangerous'.
After painstakingly analysing the tracks and comparing them to the 'Live and Dangerous' album takes and the tracks recorded for The King Biscuit Flower Hour that feature on the Wolfgangs Vault website an astounding conclusion was reached.
Still Dangerous' actually features material from two different gigs recorded at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia on the 20th and 21st of October 1977.

We have now heard an advance copy of Still Dangerous including the two songs which will only be available on the Japanese edition or I-Tunes.
The quality is stunning, great performances and great production. An essential purchase, if only ...
It defies logic that Bad Reputation and Emerald will not be included on the standard release. Quite why Thin Lizzy Productions felt the need to change the running order is mystifying, Philip Lynott was the master at putting a set-list together. Dancing In The Moonlight is totally out of sequence and it is very obvious that songs are 'missing'.
Still Dangerous will be a decent release but will be regarded as an opportunity missed by many Lizzy Fans.

This forthcoming release has been the subject of much discussion on our Members Forum since December 2008. It is with increasing disappointment that we have learned more and more.
Far from being 'raw, unadulterated and untouched' it has come to our attention that the album will only feature 10 songs from Philadelphia '77!
Update 29th January: We are not even sure which show this is due to the paucity of information in the original press release and we are further confused by a US press release, attributed to Scott Gorham - as Lizzy played Philadelphia on 20th and 21st October 1977.

There was some debate that bootleg recordings featured different recordings - which suggested that KBFH also recorded the second show on Friday 21st October 1977 and hopes were high that Still Dangerous would feature this show in it's entirety. It was also hoped that this release would go another step further to diminishing the over-exaggerated, urban myth that Live And Dangerous is 75% overdubbed. While we are not in complete denial; the Wolfgangs Vault stream and a recent bootleg from Hammersmith Odeon 1976 suggest that the bulk of Live And Dangerous was all there and only required some polishing - the odd bum-note and backing vocals overdubbed. Now the very people who are releasing this album have fallen into the trap of describing Live And Dangerous as "not really a live record at all"?!!

out 1977 Bad Reputation Tour, Still Dangerous captures the
classic quartet of Lynott, Downey, Gorham and Robertson on fire at the
celebrated Tower Theatre in Philadelphia. The recordings that make up
Still
Dangerous
were discovered by accident in an overlooked band lockup - a happy accident
for Thin Lizzy fans and music fans in general as it is set to become an
essential addition to the legacy of one of rocks greatest ever acts. The
album is fully endorsed by Phil Lynott's estate and the band. Still
Dangerous is the first release on the Thin Lizzy Productions label
(distributed by Proper Music Distribution).
Update 29th January: Extract from US press release: Guitarist Gorham remembers the discovery of these tapes: "We pulled all these boxes down, and I didn't even realize how many we had! There were a hell of a lot. One of the engineers was cataloging each reel, and one box came up marked Philadelphia 2. That kinda stuck because I remembered Philadelphia but didn't know what the 2 meant. Then it hit me. What had happened, on that particular leg of the King Biscuit tour, before we actually started the tour proper, we were asked to come out and do the radio show. We were uncomfortable because we wanted to do a few warm-up shows before we went [on the air live] so we struck a deal. We said we'll go in and do this show for you if you only simulcast four songs, and let us come back in a few weeks time and do the whole show. They agreed. This tape is that second show coming back through Philadelphia where we were ready to go out and conquer America".

Our forum members do not view this release as a happy accident and many have already decided they will not be purchasing. There is a tongue in cheek fear that the remaining tracks will be released in instalments - as bonus tracks on future releases or as an 'expanded edition'. Following the fiasco of the UK Tour '75 live album only being made available, in full after it's part-inclusion on the Live And Dangerous DVD Box Set.
Update 29th January: We are now hearing that the Japanese edition will feature two extra tracks: Emerald and Bad Reputation. These tracks will be available to the rest of the world to buy as downloads. Once again our cynicism is vindicated, the full show is being released piece-meal to maximise profit at the expense of the fans.

Thin Lizzy Fans posting on the Rock Legend Forum are extremely unhappy as the band played well on both nights in Philadelphia and there are several interesting tracks that did not make the Live And Dangerous album - Johnny being a particularly good example. While Soldier Of Fortune is a welcome bonus, live versions of the remaining tracks have all been available before which makes it difficult to understand their inclusion over other songs. Rumour has it that the reason the full show is not being released is down to the powers that be being unhappy with the quality of some of the songs. The running order has also been changed. So much for raw, unadulterated and untouched?
We have also heard that King Biscuit have been trying for some years to convince Thin Lizzy Ltd and the former management CMO to let them release the whole show from the 20th October 1977 on their own label, only to be consistently denied.
Thin Lizzy Productions Ltd were offered photographs and reviews from the Philadelphia 1977 shows to produce a relevant accompanying booklet - photographs originally intended for but unused on Live And Dangerous. This also fell on deaf ears.
A long list of grievances from many long-time Thin Lizzy Fans who are thoroughly sick and tired of being ignored and exploited by the mishandling of the band's back-catalogue and legacy.
We cannot give an opinion on how the album sounds as Rock Legend is not on the mailing-list for promo-copies. Hardly surprising since we are home to so many passionate and dedicated Thin Lizzy Supporters. Possibly, more dangerously, we are totally independent and not afraid to be critical.

It's that time of year -so here we go again! After much deliberation, the organisers of this critically acclaimed event have finally decided that this year’s theme will be Dancing in the Moonlight. Virtually every major venue in Dublin has hosted the Vibe as it crosses the river Liffey from North to South and now The '09 Vibe returns to the Button Factory from the 3rd to the 4th of January, with the Pre-Vibe, Main Event, and a repeat of the successful Matinee on the Sunday afternoon. Being a weekend there will also be numerous side events, organized and impromptu, but more of that later.

We realize how little precious time there is left, and with Crimbo and the New Year Celebrations inbetween, January will be here before you can say Jack Frost ... Established acts such as Elvis Costello, Sinead O’Connor, and Adam Clayton were previous special guests and created enough optimism to convince everyone that this event is one that warrants much public appeal and signifies a most entertaining event for Lizzy fans old and new. So far we know that the Lizzy Boys (Japan) are Ready to Rock on all three shows with a different set on each occasion, Hoodoo Rhythm Devils, MD Brian Grace and numerous guests including Matt & Phil (Tizz Lizzy), John Conlon (Thin az Lizzy), Derek Herbert (Les enFants), Dave Mc Guinness (Lir), Colm Quirney (Q), Mark Adams, Paul Toal, Jimmy Coup, Ditch Cassidy, Robbie Bray, Ritchie Buckley and anybody else of interest with a good idea that props up between now and the event!
New Lady on the block - from New York City - with a brilliant Debut Album and a Top 40 single under her belt and flavour of the month with Ian Dempsey's Breakfast audience on Today FM - the charming Nell Bryden is also a huge Philo fan - having been fascinated and inspired by his writing technique. No stranger to Ireland she has preformed to sold out shows nationwide. Welcome on board Nell, who will render an acoustic set and join the House Band for a ditty or two. Other Acts on the Show include Emerald, who did an acoustic set some years ago but will go full-on electric on this occasion with some interesting versions of lesser performed songs. Renegade will drop in and out over the "Happening Weekender" ... with a few other bands in mind for alternative slots for each event to spice things up and keep it interesting over the three shows would be the plan ...
